Perry was born in Chicago to two actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. She made her first appearances on television in the role of Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC comedy Roseanne. Her parents did not allow her to perform by her parents until she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the anxiety it could create. Perry was shy in high-school and did not act. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry left for New York, where she got small roles on shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness led Perry her back home California which was where theatre jobs were readily available. Perry starred with her mother on stage in The Other Place at Broadway the previous year. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was presented at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry played nine roles in The Family, an ABC film The Family, in 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in the role of a political thriller Scandal alongside her father. That same year her character was cast a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong relationship with the character's family.
